The Jersey Express have teamed up with renowned New York chef and reality television star Gabe Kennedy, hiring the winner of ABC's "The Taste" as a Nutrition Consultant.
Kennedy will be educating Jersey Express players on how to create a well-balanced, healthy eating lifestyle, demonstrating how easy it is to prepare healthy, simple meals.
"Nutrition, training and recovery are the fundamental keys to performance. Nutrition is simple. It is about eating real food, whole foods," Kennedy said. "My job is to equip athletes with the life skills necessary to perform; cooking simple nutritious food from scratch is the basis of this. Food, as a whole, enhances team performance. The act of sitting together as a team at the table is the best way to build morale, superseding any individual performance. Each and every athlete is different and requires different fuel, but real food, unprocessed food, is a constant that anyone will benefit from
,¨" he says.
Kennedy who was selected as the winner of "The Taste" on Jan. 22, has served as consultant for various restaurants, a private chef and has helped launch and manage multiple organic food and lifestyle brands. He is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and the Cornell University Hotel School.
"We are proud to have Gabe educate and demonstrate to our players, not only what it takes to prepare your body to be at its best on the field, but to create a life long sustainable eating lifestyle," Jersey Express general manager Gali Maimon said.
"Our mission statement at the Jersey Express is to provide our players with all the tools and resources needed to help them accelerate into professional soccer players. Some of these tools and resources are off the field education that can really be applied to life beyond soccer. Our players come from all different parts of the world and not all of them were educated in how nutrition works. The education of nutrition and eating correctly is something that is important to everyone's life and
truly does have a correlation with sports performance. We just want our players to better understand these vital processes so they can make educated eating decisions."
