After topping Brazos Valley Cavalry F.C. in its home opener on Thursday, Mississippi Brilla FC defeated the Texas-based side for a second time in the Premier Development League Game of the Week on Saturday.
Brilla FC earned a 1-0 result at Clinton High School on Thursday, with Thomas Vancaeyezeele netting the lone goal. Rimario Gordon and Emmanuel Usen scored the first two goals of the season for Cavalry F.C. in the Game of the Week, but Carlos Garces, Enzo Giuliani and Troye Kiernan all scored for Brilla FC, which moved to 3-0-0 this season.
Many teams ranked high in Week 3's Eastern and Central Conference Power Rankings suffered their first defeats of the season in Week 4, including the Michigan Bucks, Des Moines Menace, Ocean City Nor'easters and Charlotte Eagles.
The Bucks, winners of the 2016 PDL Championship, fell 1-2 on the road to the Dayton Dutch Lions. The loss marks the second year in a row the Bucks have lost to the Dutch Lions. The three-time PDL champions did bounce back on Saturday, with Francis Atuahene and Andre Landell each scoring two goals en route to a 6-2 win against the West Virginia Chaos.
The Menace only secured one point in two matches during Week 4. The St. Louis Lions' Vadim Cojocov scored the only goal in a 0-1 result on Saturday, while the Menace tied the Saint Louis FC U23 1-1 on Sunday. Devyn Jambga scored his second goal of the season for the Menace in Sunday's draw, and Sam Gainford netted his third of season for the Saint Louis FC U23.
After earning a 1-0 win against FA Euro New York, the Nor'easters fell 1-3 to the New York Red Bulls U23, who have started the season with three consecutive wins. Brian White leads the Red Bulls U23 with three goals this campaign, while Benjamin Lundgaard has made seven saves and recorded a 1.00 goals-against average.
The Eagles topped a talented Tobacco Road FC 4-1 on Thursday, but the 2016 South Atlantic Division winners suffered a 1-3 defeat to the Myrtle Beach Mutiny on Saturday. The Mutiny, who are 2-0-1 to start the season, are led by Tobenna Uzo. The forward has scored three goals to start the 2017 campaign.
